The Question:

I am loving your "5 day Get Lean" - I'm in the 7th week. However, I have not really changed my cardio - I run MWF 8 miles (1hr) and TTh I do the SM/Bike (1hr) after the weights - Sat/Sun are no weights, no scheduled workout but maybe a hike or walk, etc.

If I cut my cardio to 20-30 min as recomended in some of your other answers, I'm afraid I will gain weight instead of loosing fat...Am I overtraining? If I reduce my cardio, will I have to reduce calories too in order to not gain?

The Answer:

You sound very active and are obviously in great shape! If you feel great you are probably not overtraining. My cardio recommendations in the Get Lean programs are really as a minimum cardio level to help in burning calories and becoming healthy. But again, if you do not have any major goal changes in your exercise program (like wanting to gain muscle mass) and you feel fine, then I would continue with what you are doing.

You could think about periodizing your running program along with the weight training workout. You could just run a little faster on the harder weeks and a little slower on the easier weeks.

If you decide to reduce your cardio exercise you should also reduce your carbohydrate intake. But, keep your fat and protein intake the same.

Keep training and having fun!
