The Question: My question is about caloric intake. I work a physical job(loading trailers for a shipping company) for 4-5 hours a night during the week. I plan on following the strentgh and power program and need to know if I should increase my calorie intake form the prescribed 13X your bodyweight formula. i'm worried that if I take in too little calories, that my body will tap into my muscle when looking for energy. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! The Answer: I would definitely look at increasing your caloric intake by 500 calories above the basic recommendations (bodyweight x 13). You have a physical job! Make sure you stay hydrated and try to eat some nutritious foods every 3 hours throughout your waking hours. I would also recommend taking in 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. Sometimes I just recommend 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass but in your case you could easily bump this up a bit! One more thing, you should do the Express version of whatever program you decide to do. This is because of the activity in your job. You can only do so much throughout the day and the Express program will be perfect for you! |
