The Question:

HAVE YOU HEARD OF SUCH MASS/STREGNTH BUILDING SUBSTANCES CALLED (mucunapruriens seedsstandardized for L-Doppa & polypodium Vulgare/Suma root standardized for 20-hydroxyecdysone) THESE SUBSTANCES ARE SUPOSED TO BE A ANABOLIC HERBAL MIX accompanied by Zinc,magnesium ,potassium minerals . It supposed to be natural. Is it safe? Is it really natural? Are those herbal items really STEROIDS OR CREATORS OF STEROIDS IN THE BODY? Harmfull? I have a difficult time losing fat even with aerobics and cutting down on fat,etc. I have read that products like Ephedrine,syneprhine or Yohimbine will pep up the metabolism of fat since they are related to stimulants. I dont have high blood pressure or any know heart conditions aside from a murmur. Do you know or have you heard if such products pose a health danger if used in moderation or are they too risky? Also any testimonials on the use of "HydrocuT?" I was thinking of trying it. I have read that too much chromium picolinate is hard on the Kidneys and could cause damage? How much is too much? Most weight loss and vitamin products contain 100- 200 mcg.


The Answer:

L-Dopa creates an increase in growth hormone. Using Zinc and magnesium combinations can be a great way to naturally boost your testosterone levels. I like the vitamin and mineral approach (Zinc, Magnesium) but the L-Dopa and mucunapruriens/Vulgare/Suma root combinations I would steer clear of. The whole growth hormone manipulation goal with these herbs is just a waste of money! Research has been going on with this type of stuff for literally decades and it is never cost effective nor would it be safe if it was. You really need a doctor controlling these substances for you!

Hydroxycut, (I think that’s what you are asking about) is a very good stimulant for burning fat. However, this product and the various "fat burners" out there do work but you really need to cycle these supplements to avoid a down-regulation of your body's natural adrenal stimulants. You should cycle your fat burners with a 2 week on 2 week off cycle. Then, once per year, you can stay on for up to 8 weeks without any negative consequences. You should check with your doctor beforehand, however, to see about blood pressure concerns and any contraindications with other medications. Remember, hard training and consistent dieting are the true keys to long term success!

The FDA recommends 50 micrograms of chromium daily, and the National Research Council says that an intake between 50 and 200 micrograms daily is "safe and adequate." So, it appears that products containing 100-200 mcg of chromium picolinate are safe. But, as always your particular situation could be different so check with a Doc before taking these or any supplements.
