The Question:

For the past few months I've been trying to gain muscle and some weight. I've been told to eat alot of carbohydrated foods (pasta, bread, juice, etc.) but I've only been able to gain like 3 pounds and then lose it in the next morning. Are there any supplements, mostly containing natural substances, that have enough carbs and protein to help me gain more lean muscle and weight?

The Answer:

A balanced diet containing quality Fats, (flaxseed oil, olive oil, Udo's oil or fats found in fish), Carbohydrates (oatmeal, potatoes, whole wheat breads, fruits and vegetables), and Protein (chicken, fish, egg whites, low fat dairy products, and meal replacement powders such as Myoplex, Met-Rx etc) are the key for gaining weight!

A training program such as our 4 Day Strength and Power Express program and adequate rest will work together to produce the best results in muscle mass (bodyweight) gain. Let me say that it is very easy for me to write down what you need to do. The hard part is for you to actually do it. You have to never, ever, ever miss a meal and you should be eating a minimum of 6 times per day. If you are a hard gainer, which it sounds like you are, you have to do this. And, you can't just do it for 2 weeks. It has to be day in and day out for at least 12 weeks. Then, you can have 2-3 days off and you have to do it all over again! See what I mean! Stay positive, be consistent, and you will be successful!

For more information check out the nutrition section from the Fitrex.com home page. You will need a quality meal replacement because it is very difficult to eat 6 times per day. I agree that you want to get most of your calories form natural food sources it's just that it is so much more convenient from a time and preparation standpoint if one or two of those meals can come from a meal replacement supplement. Most of them only cost $1.50 so you get a lot of nutrition for your money.
