The Question:

When I was younger (between the ages of 4 and 13..I am now 36) I broke my left arm 4 times and the last time I broke it I suffered a GREEN STICK fracture that was not set properly...Now the question...My left arm is consideraby smaller in size and strength than my right..when I am working out my left arm gives out long before my right arm does and it prohibits me from getting the work out I desire...(especially chest exercise). What advice do you have to correct this problem..(due to the fact that my left arm was set improperly there is a curve to my arm that prohibits me from flattening out my left hand...the curved bars and hammer stlye curls are ok but anything with a straight bar I cannot do.

The Answer:

The questions dealing with an injury situation, past or present, are always tough to answer. I have heard of people that have had nerve damage or broken bones such as yourself who have actually started doing a few extra sets at the end of their exercise program specifically for the injured or weaker side of their bodies.

This may help in providing a slightly greater training effect that could enhance the overall strength and size of the injured side. Don't do more than 3 extra sets total. And, only do these extra sets on the days that you are working the specific muscle groups in question. Don't do bicep curls or one arm dumbbell lateral raise every day! Do them on the days they are actually on your program. Also, maybe you could try doing everything with dumbbells as this would eliminate any cheating or overpowering that your bigger or stronger side may be doing.
